Bigfoot Wiki:Style guide

From Bigfoot Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page serves the purpose of standardizing the wiki by describing various stylization rules that should be kept in mind when creating or editing pages. Adhering to the same formatting rules keep the wiki looking neat and eliminates possibilities for confusion. You don't have to necessarily follow these rules, as information is generally more important than exact consistency, but doing so is appreciated. If you have any issues with with anything mentioned here, or would like to add on, feel free to do so.

Again, if something here looks incorrect, don't be afraid to ask, or change it along with a reason.

General Notes

  • Summarize the page in one or two sentences before moving on to the next section, which should usually be titled ==Summary==. View similar pages to see what works best.
    • The name of the page, when mentioned in the first sentence, should be emboldened.
    • The first instance of BIGFOOT should be written as {{Gamename}}, specifically in the first sentence.
  • Bigfoot, the mythical beast, should be written as Bigfoot, whereas BIGFOOT, the name of the game, should be written as BIGFOOT.
  • Pages similar to each other should follow the same format. e.g. The 4 main pages of maps, or the four hunter pages.
  • Keep information about previous updates, or outdated information in general, inside the ==Trivia== section of pages. Exceptions can be made if it makes more sense to include it elsewhere in the article
  • When you are writing version numbers, consider the situation
    • Be more specific (5.0, 4.4.0) when mentioning something that happened at one point in time (e.g. a feature being added)
    • Be more general (Version 5, 4.4) when mentioning something that spanned over a few updates (e.g. bears were aggressive in 4.4)

Patch Notes

  • Update pages (e.g. 5.1.1) should use the format UPDATE is a TYPE for {{Gamename}} released on DATE., where:
    • UPDATE is the version number, only including digits
      • For the sake of standardization, an update's "official" name should be converted to the format of modern updates
    • TYPE is the type of update it is. Generally, it goes:
      • Overhaul, for major release numbers, e.g. 5.0
      • Major update, for updates that have major additions, such as a new map
      • Minor update, for 3rd-order updates that aren't specifically labeled hotfix, and do more than fix bugs
      • Hotfix, for patches that only fix bugs and do minor changes
    • DATE is the release date in Month Day, Year format, e.g. January 18th, 2024
  • After the introductory sentence, a ==Summary== may be included, summarizing the most important changes described in the offical patch notes
  • The last part is to copy the patch notes from the Patch Notes page, which are sourced directly from Steam
